Service for Jim Bodnar

Service for Jim Bodnar (Thurs Squad) will be held on Thursday, August 16th at 3:00pm (cremation).

For those who don’t know -- Jim on Wednesday evening (Aug 8th) was trying to help a neighbor corral a horse that had gotten out, according to my sources Jim was knocked down and stepped on by the horse, was air-lifted to Albany Med, where he later died.

SARATOGA - A Schuylerville-area man was struck and killed by a jumping horse Thursday after he stopped to a help a friend corral it, Quaker Springs Fire Chief Don Ormsby <http://us.mg6.mail.yahoo.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Don+Ormsby%22>  said.
Just after 5 p.m., James Bodnar <http://us.mg6.mail.yahoo.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22James+Bodnar%22>  was driving on Casey Road when he saw two horses that had escaped their pen. Bodnar knew the owner of a nearby farm and stopped to get help to bring the horses under control, Ormsby said. One of the horses suddenly charged Bodnar and jumped over him, Ormsby said. Bodnar was struck in the chest and head by the animal's hooves.
A medical helicopter was brought to the scene, but Bodnar went into cardiac arrest just as he was being loaded into it, Ormsby said. He was then put in an ambulance, where he could be worked on, and rushed to Saratoga Hospital <http://us.mg6.mail.yahoo.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Saratoga+Hospital%22> . Bodnar later died at the hospital, the fire chief said.
Bodnar was a carpenter who had retired earlier this summer. He was working part-time as a handyman and was a long-time volunteer firefighter with Quaker Springs. He was the department's chief at one time as well, Ormsby said.
